On Monday, 9/4/06, the Liberts' and the Moreins took a jet boat ride from Portland south down the Willamette River to the Willamette Falls. The river is one of the few rivers in the world that flows from south to north. The most noteable one is the Nile. So, we were actually downstream in Portland and the falls were above us when we reached them. Here was our first view of the falls from about a half mile away.

Before enering the falls area we took a little side venture into a lock which still operates and is employed to lift boats onto the upper river. When we first entered the lock the water was not flowing directly into the lock area but the lock operator opened the full flow as we entered. Here we are just entering.

Then the water was released from the river above and we continued forward into the lock.

Now, we're at the base of the lock.

We then backed out and headed towards the falls.
Here's some shots of these very beautiful falls.

Here are the survivers. This is Lew.

Lew again.

And, Bobbi the beautiful.

Leaving the falls and heading back down the river.
